A Message from Mari-Beth O'Neill

AKC appreciates the time that was taken to complete the survey about Junior Showmanship. We will be including results throughout the next few issues of the Junior Newsletter. We appreciate the comments and suggestions and are pleased to share the following with you.

My name is Hunter Wilber; I am 15 and live in Aliceville, Alabama. I've been training dogs and pups for a little over a half of a year now.

I first became interesting training dogs from duck hunting. I met Mr. Tyler Kohen owner of Southern Duck Dogs when I was in the process of looking for a great duck dog/pup. Mr. Tyler took me under his wing teaching me all dog training and obedience abilities and how to have my dog AKC Hunt Test ready.

My name is Kai Macauley. I am eight years old and live in Virginia. My dog's name is Sasha. She is a Papillon that I run in agility. It's different running Sasha because she's a smaller dog. I started learning agility on three bigger dogs that jump 24 and 20 inches. Smaller dogs are different to run. For example, when we are running and I look back, I have to look down instead of straight in the middle.

On October 12th, 10 year old Emilio Monzeglio completed his 4th straight Junior Hunt test pass at the Labrador Retriever Club National Hunt Test in Elkton, MD. Emilio tested alongside 37 adult entrants and handled his family’s black Labrador retriever, Delta, to earn both the dog’s Junior Hunter title and his Junior Handler Certificate.

Herding is fun!

One year ago, a friend of our family was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He wasn’t able to take care of his six year old Border Collie, so my mom and I took Dylan into our home. We already had an older dog but Dylan liked to retrieve balls and spend time with me, like he had always been my own pet.

Juniors Show their Poodle Pride

The Poodle Club of America hosted a Seminar for all Juniors entered or interested in learning more about competing with Poodles. The program was instructed by AKC Executive Field Representative, Gina Weiser. Gina is the chair of the Poodle Club of America Junior Education Committee, which she is very passionate about having grown up in the sport as a breeder and exhibitor of Poodles. Best Junior at the Poodle Club of America was Matthew Tylenda.
