Course Description: A study of Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software which is used to develop applications for manufacturing. Emphasis on tool geometry, tool selection, and the tool library. Introduction to the common types of lathes. Emphasis on basic parts, nomenclature, lathe operations, safety, machine mathematics, blueprint reading, and theory. Fundamentals of CNC Machine Controls with an emphasis on turning centers. Programming and operation of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machinery. The study of numerical controlled machine operations in a CAM/CIM environment. Emphasis on standard and computer numerical controlled (CNC) procedures for planning, preparing, and operating a computer-assisted machine. The principles and concepts of numerical control through computer applications, specifically in the area of programming for the control of machine tools in computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Identify and use of special cutting tools and support tooling, such as, form tools, carbide inserts, taper attachments, follower and steady rest. Close tolerance machining required.
