Mike's Great Sailing adventure - Harvest Moon 2017
Photos from the 2017 Harvest Moon sailboat race. Normally this is a race from Galveston Texas to Port Aransas but due to Hurricane Harvey destroying Port Aransas the race this
year just made a 100 mile loop out in the Gulf.
The start of the race for our division - basically crusier boats with no spinnaker
Actually, the start was the night before at the Kemah boardwalk
Marina on Clear Lake where we rented the boat
Looking forward to the adventure
Headed out to Galveston Bay at Kemah boardwalk
Me at the helm driving in the bay to the start of the race
Some of the traffic we encountered in Galveston Bay and near the inlet to the Gulf. It's a busy place!
Had to keep your eyes open at night and always looking - the large commercial traffic does not look
much different than a small fishing boat until you get up close
Tanker turning - we called him on the radio to see what his intentions were. If he had not kept turning
we would have been on a collision path
