Synthetic:   These are manufactured pesticides.

Surprisingly, many of the synthetic pesticides were originally taken from living things. For example, pyrethrin insecticide was extracted from certain chrysanthemum plants and the herbicide mesotrione is a molecule fashioned after a natural herbicide extracted from the bottlebrush plant (Callistemon citrinus).

Natural:   These are pesticides that are taken or extracted directly from other living things. Examples of these are Neem oil, corn gluten, etc.

Microbial:   These are a unique group of pesticides that use fungi, bacteria or viruses that cause disease on the pest. These are intentionally introduced to produce high levels of disease on the target pest.
