Residual Pesticides that continue to have pesticide effects for a period of time after application.

Nonresidual A pesticide that has a relatively short period of time of efficacy after the application.

Some break down almost immediately, others bind to soil components very quickly. They are still there, but are no longer available to have the intended effect.

Persistence Although, we may want a pesticide to stick around for a period of time, to prolong control, we don't want it to last too long. For example when a pesticide sticks around too long and damages what we replant in that spot.
