Environmental Precautions > Fate of Pesticides in The Environment
Bioamagnification
As we climb the links in the food chain, a hungry owl eats five of those shrews.
Each insect has 1 unit of pesticide in its body. The shrew now has 16 units of pesticide in its body. The owl eats 5 shrews that have been feeding on those insects and the owl now gets 80 units of pesticide in its body.

The pesticide accumulates in each level of the food chain.
