Deciding What to Do > Pest Management Principles
Ever notice how some people get less colds than others? Pests vary too. For example, while most will be killed by a certain pesticide, a few may not. Those that are not killed are called resistant.

Resistance is a natural characteristic based on a pest's genetic variability. If we didn't use the pesticide we would never notice it.

Pesticide resistance becomes a problem when we select for it. The pesticide does not cause resistance, but repeated overuse of it can cause the PROBLEM of resistance. It is actually "Unnatural selection" if you will.

There has been for many years an acedemic debate regarding the terms "resistant" and "tolerant." Some acedemics separate these two through various arguments and yet others group both these under "resistant".
