Candidate as Ordinary Board Member
I will work towards expanding MCAA’s role in the promotion of the value of a diverse society and the importance of carrying out research in a diverse environment.
I joined the MCAA in 2017. The next year, I attended the annual conference in Louvain, which made me experience the value of the organisation and pushed me to actively contribute to its growth.
As a member of the Communication Working Group, I have been contributing to define and revise the communication strategies and channels of the MCAA. For example, I have designed the internal guidelines for print accessibility and inclusive language, and I have been supervising both IRRADIUM, MCAA’s yearly magazine, and the four-monthly MCAA Newsletter.
In 2018, I became editor-in-chief of the Newsletter. Under my direction, it acquired a more formal structure, an editorial team, and a proper workflow. All of this granted the MCAA Newsletter an ISSN number, increasing its value as a formal venue for the dissemination of its members’ research.
I am also a member of the Genders, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Working Group, within which I co-coordinate the ResearchAbility project on inclusion and support of researchers with specific needs.
I also have over a decade of experience in managing not-for-profit organisations, having seated on the board of major actors in the areas of human rights, social inclusion, and culture.
Since I joined the MCAA, I have been experiencing the multiple benefits of being part of a strong network of peers committed to advance the status of researchers and promote their social impact. I intend to contribute to strengthen these aspects by putting at MCAA’s service my experience in managing not-for-profit organisations. In particular, I intend to support the growth of the association in four areas.
Communication: I will continue to strengthen the communication strategies of the organisation. I will also work to further the scientific profile of the IRRADIUM magazine and the MCAA Newsletter in order to make them even more valuable venues for promoting MCAA members’ research.
Policy: I will work towards strengthening MCAA’s position as an even more relevant actor in the definition of European policies. Members: I will promote the realisation of a series of internal surveys to understand the challenges and needs of our members, which could then serve as a basis for the elaboration of new strategies and policies.
Accessibility and inclusion: I will work towards expanding MCAA’s role in the promotion of the value of a diverse society and the importance of carrying out research in a diverse environment.
