Synopsis

No Vacancy Lounge is a modern Art Deco-inspired lounge in Portland’s Old Town. The design aimed to create a timeless feel that is ripe for social engagement and live entertainment.

The Lounge is multi faceted and serves as a full service event space, complete with 57’ theatrical lighting grid supported by 280 amps power evenly distributed, 10,000 individually addressable theatrical fixtures & LEDs and an EAW AVALON DC2 sound system powered by 300 amps of Crown amplifiers.

Technical fabrication techniques and materials were employed keeping the mantra of Art Deco close at hand. The room delivers the unique feel of a past era. No Vacancy Lounge is an amalgamation of Intricate patterns of woven wire, tube lasers, custom transparent powder coats and an attention to detail. So much so, that we recreated light sconce from the 1930’s as they were unavailable for purchase at this time.

Rigging Fabrication Management Lighting Design Installation Floor Mural

Synopsis

This installation was inspired by Nike’s branding of forty-seven recently acquired buildings outside their main campus. The buildings were renamed after classic Nike products, which are displayed inside acrylic cases floating above their corresponding building location on the painted floor map. This exhibit was designed to introduce the public to Nike’s campus expansion project, which runs 2016 - 2018.

Video Content Projection Mapping

Synopsis

Eugene Ballet Company approached us to add visual accompaniment to their performance of Peer Gynt. Over the 1.5 year project we created a strategy for complimenting the dance performance and bring the story to life using 4k video. Z-VIZ brought the water colors of Satoko Motouji to life for many of the scenes set designs. Original content was created deep with in remote ice caves, using macro shots of fluid dynamics and a ship wreck scene was created using cinemagraphs.

The video presentation was displayed using an Arkaos Media Master server and a Brco UDX-4K32 projector.

Artist Support

Synopsis

Over the years, we have enjoyed working with creative artists from around the world. From simply stretching canvas to programming custom lighting control software, Z-VIZ loves supporting artists by removing any technical challenges that stand between them and creating.

The above slide is of Lighting Designer Jean Margret Thomas Flame Sculptures. Z-VIZ used Raspberry Pi to make the installation compact & portable for easy in field deployment. There are now 4 different sculptures that feature a 3 channel lighting program that mimics the light of a fire. More details available HERE

Synopsis

Dot Dot Dash was asked to create an activation that featured the HTC Vive in the first public activation with the VR headset. In collaboration with Green Label, Google and HTC, they created an experience that pushed the limits and demonstrated how VR activation should be executed in the future. Z-VIZ helped bring the Dot Dot Dash design to life and get it to Canada in time for the NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto.

Fabrication Parametric Modeling

Synopsis

Our friends at Big Giant reached out to us to help build their piano design for Piano Push Play. The design featured a series of undulating spires rising out of the Piano conforming to a parabolic surface. In order to create the build the design we created a parametric model using Grasshopper. From that model we were able to create a cut list and bring the piano to life.
