Ashley Sutton

Festival Coordinator Intern

My love of theatre started in high school, so it feels natural that I’m now here with the Sears BC Drama Festival. Taking all the acting and drama classes, stagecraft, and directing and scriptwriting, I learned on both sides of the curtain.

After grad, I found a place in community theatre in the Fraser Valley with Langley Players, Surrey Little Theatre, Bard in the Valley, and Stage 43. Some favourite credits include: Lizzie Monahan in For Better (Langley Players), Holofernes in Loves’ Labor’s Lost (Bard in The Valley), Georgeanne in Five Women Wearing The Same Dress (Stage 43), and Bella Kurnitz in Lost in Yonkers (Langley Players) where I received Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Fraser Valley Zone Festival), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Theatre BC Mainstage), and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Community Theatre Coalition).

Stage Management credits include Rebel Without a Cause (Surrey Little Theatre), and Comedy of Errors, Julius Caesar, and Taming of The Shrew (Bard in the Valley). Currently enrolled in the Arts and Entertainment Management program, I’ve been Artist Liaison for musicians who play at The Blueshore Financial Center at Capilano University, was Front of House Manager, Head Usher, and Head Concession. Because of the program, I was able to take on a Summer Works position with Rumble Theatre as Event Assistant for the Tremors Festival of Emerging Talent. I’m so incredibly humbled and eager to be involved with the Sears BC Drama Fest. To work with emerging artists from all over the province and foster new talent and creativity feels like I’ve come full circle. Mr. Hamilton and Ms. C. – I mean, Gord and Sharon – Facilitated my first theatre escapades and now I can work with them to instill passion in the next generations of our theatre community in BC.
