Product Reviews :: Real US made basketball shoes? You've reached be kidding! My faithful couple of basketball shoes was wearing a little thin so I reluctantly decided it was time to replace them. Being concerned with what outsourcing did to the US economy I resolved that I would replace my old Reeboks (that had been made in Korea) with a pair of real and 100% genuine "Made in USA" basketball shoes. During the task I wanted to stay out of the clutches of the scammers and spammers who were selling fake replica shoes. First I went web looked at the dazzling variety of beautiful new court shoes available, but there was clearly no indication of where these may have been made so off I visited Google. There I soon found out that all of big brand shoes for example Big N? ( you know who I mean the king of shoes which made on the billion dollars profit last year) were made overseas, the labor practices in their overseas plants were less than desirable, and the foreign operations of your number of U.S. shoe companies left a lot to become desired. From there I decided to test the Mall and looked at the labels of all the brand name basketball shoes - "Made in VietNam", "Made in Korea", Made in China", "Made in Thailand", "Made in "Indonesia" and "Made in Brazil". Not one particular pair "Made in USA". This didn't manage to help much so I turned to the hovering clerk and asked if she had any Made in USA shoes. That question appeared to bewilder her, so I asked clerks in other stores and those who have been not stunned from this question informed me that there were no such thing as an American made basketball shoe, using the possible exception of Chuck Taylors. I was soon to discover that even manufacture of these stalwarts was moved overseas when Nike bought out Converse in 2003. I went back home perplexed and a bit disappointed but resolved to visit straight towards the horse?s mouth, so I started calling the organization headquarters of some from the major US shoe manufacturers to get the real story. Nike informed me that they were still manufacturing in Indonesia "and all countries in this region", understanding that "it has not been economically feasible to manufacture inside the United States". This is exactly the same company that designed a profit that has reached over $450 million inside the third quarter of 2007 alone? The nice lady at L.A. Gear seemed somewhat surprised when I asked if their shoes were manufactured in USA but said that their shoes were stated in Brazil and many countries in Asia. Being nothing or even stubborn, I kept the device warm and called Reebok but all I was told was that "All individuals shoes are made somewhere outside in the United States". When I told this lady that I was interested in shoes being created in deplorable conditions overseas she sent me a very nice brochure which assured me that their shoes were manufactured under circumstances "appropriate in light of national practices and conditions". Several calls later I found the countries were China, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, as well as the Philippines. Sigh! K-Swiss shoes would only say that they manufactured "offshore" however, if I called New Balance I was told that 70% with their shoes are stated in the United States, while using remaining 30% stated in Europe and Asia. Sadly none of their shoes did actually fit me. Somewhat discouraged I sat down and contemplated it for a bit. How much does it matter I wondered? How easily do principles give way on the need for better ankle support, brand loyalty, fashion and better pricing? What's all of this flap about foreign made replica shoes? Are all of the shoes sold online fakes since they are all made overseas? How can I tell if an online shoe site is selling fake replicas or the genuine genuine thing? Does it matter provided that the shoes are perfect? What exactly is a fake and what is real or genuine? So I decided to join the bunch and went back online and found a nice couple of basketball shoes from a company called kicksbay.com. They probably were not manufactured in USA though the price was right, the shoes were delivered promptly, they can fit well and seem being just as good as my old Reeboks on the court. Their customer satisfaction was helpful and I will most likely buy from them the next time, even though I wish I could find a couple of Made in USA basketball shoes. And now I am using a hard rethink about all of the fuss the important manufactures are making over "fake or replica" shoes. Is a pair of shoes that came from the same factory that creates Nikes or Addidas? shoes just as good as the "genuine the real guy" or would be the high prices we are paying simply to support the billion dollar profits many of these companies decide to make? It is food for thought and perhaps more articles.
