Getting the right fit with your athletic shoes - Philadelphia running fitness If you are planning to run any big races this spring and you think you might need new running sneakers, the time has come to take care of it. You need at least a month to get rid of in the new shoes and be sure that they fit well. As a serial shopper, I have tried every way to buy athletic shoes. I was originally fit for shoes when I trained for my first marathon. After that I continued to acquire my shoes online. I always stuck with the same brand and model and not had any problem. This past fall my trusty jogging shoes started to deliver trouble. I was having horrible foot pain and can barely figure to run farther compared to a mile. I attended the Bryn Mawr Running Company and I was fit for first time sneakers. Turns out I had been wearing a half size too big; I was wearing an 8.5 and occurred to an 8, and the wrong sort of shoe for my feet and stride. I switched from my lovely Mizunos with a great set of Asics. I spent this past fall injured and took some time off from running. When I got back to running, I need new shoes again. I was tempted to purchase another pair online but rather I went back to the running store and was fit again. I got yet another excellent pair of jogging shoes, but switched brands again. These new shoes, Nikes, required me to visit down another half size. After this experience I see the importance of being fit for my shoes. Every logo and model runs differently and with jogging shoes costing $80-$120 some, it is worth it to make it right. As an extra, whenever you buy your shoes from your running store, you can usually try them out on a treadmill then exchange them if you are unhappy using the fit. This allows you to get the best set of two shoes on your feet. To help you along, here is a list of some local running & sporting goods stores where you are able to get fit for first time shoes: Bryn Mawr Running Company (Bryn Mawr, Media & Manayunk)Philadelphia Runner (Center City & University City)The Running Place (Newtown Square)City Sports (Ardmore & Center City) Wishing you all happy feet and strong strides! |
