Getting the right fit with your athletic shoes - Philadelphia running fitness If you are planning to run any big races this spring so you think you may want new running sneakers, now is the time to take care of it. You need a minimum of a month to break in the new shoes and be sure that they fit well. As a serial shopper, I have tried every way to buy jogging shoes. I was originally fit for shoes when I trained for my first marathon. After that I continued to get my shoes online. I always saddled with the same brand name and model and not had any trouble. This past fall my trusty running sneakers started to produce trouble. I was having horrible foot pain and can barely stand to run farther than a mile. I attended the Bryn Mawr Running Company and I was fit for first time sneakers. Turns out I had been wearing a half size too big; I was wearing an 8.5 and transpired to an 8, as well as the wrong form of shoe for my feet and stride. I switched from my lovely Mizunos with a great couple of Asics. I spent earlier this fall injured and took time off from running. When I got to running, I need new shoes again. I was tempted to purchase another pair online but instead I went returning to the running store and was fit again. I got an execllent pair of jogging shoes, but switched brands again. These new shoes, Nikes, required me to travel down another half size. After this experience I see the value of being fit for my shoes. Every brand and model runs differently and with running shoes costing $80-$120 a pair, it is worth it to get it right. As an additional benefit, when you buy your shoes from a running store, you'll be able to usually try them out on a treadmill after which exchange them if you're unhappy with the fit. This allows you to get the best set of two shoes on your feet. To help you out, here is a list of some local running & sports equipment stores where you can get fit for new shoes: Bryn Mawr Running Company (Bryn Mawr, Media & Manayunk)Philadelphia Runner (Center City & University City)The Running Place (Newtown Square)City Sports (Ardmore & Center City) Wishing everybody happy feet and strong strides! |
