I am a retired Professor from the University of Colorado School of Medicine where I was a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. My expertise is in the biosciences and public health, particularly biomedical and molecular aspects of infectious disease. I spent over 30 years as a biomedical research scientist leading a research lab (supported by the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease at the National Institutes of Health) and as an educator teaching undergraduate, graduate, and medical school courses. My primary expertise is in the molecular biology of infectious disease (Neglected Diseases of Poverty), but I have broad expertise in biology and other science areas.
I helped establish and lead a $20 million program called the “RNA Bioscience Initiative” at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. This program included hiring of new faculty; bioinformatic support for RNA research; grant, seminar, and education programs; summer research opportunities for undergraduates; and development of a robust RNA research community.
As a retiree, I would like to contribute to science and public health advocacy and education. I am an excellent speaker/communicator and can transmit complex information to the general public. Please contact me if you think I might be able to contribute to your mission in any capacity. Any services provided would be free and on a voluntary basis.
