The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is an important and required component of the accreditation process. The plan represents the college's commitment to enhancing student learning and success. Each institution that reaffirms its accreditation develops a five-year plan to improve student learning or the learning environment in a specific and measurable way.
The title of North Lake's QEP is "iRead." The QEP is a long-term program to improve the success rate of North Lake students who are enrolled in the developmental reading program. College data showed that students in developmental reading were less likely to complete their studies. The goal of iRead is to move students through developmental studies more quickly and successfully so that they can start taking college-level classes before they accumulate significant levels of debt or withdraw for other reasons.
iRead advances the developmental reading program through curriculum changes; expanded tutoring, including a new dedicated tutoring lab; and a series of events and activities that promote reading comprehension skills.
