SESSION 4 - Articulation
1. Students work in groups; one group plays at a time while the rest of the class
observes. One person is the articulator and the others will try to work out the words
that the articulator will explain. There are six words on each card, one from each of
the following categories. (Some may consist of two words.)
• Person
• Place
• Object
• Nature
• Action
• Random
2. The articulator must try to explain each of the words so that the other group
members guess them correctly in the shortest time possible. The group will be timed
while the rest of the class watches.
3. If he/she is having difficulty with a particular word, the articulator may say ‘pass’,
move onto the next word and come back to the passed word later.
4. If the group cannot guess the word after some time, the articulator may say ‘leave’
and the group receives a 20 second time penalty for that word.
5. The articulator may not use any part of the given word in trying to explain it. For
example, if the word was gum tree, he/she may not say ‘it is a type of tree’ or use
the word ‘gum’. If he/she inadvertently does this, the group receives a 20 second
penalty for that word.
6. The articulator may not use mime or gesture to explain the word and may not say
what letter a word starts with. He/she may state if it is one or two words.
7. The winning time is the one with the lowest time.
