3. Mode of Action
The mode of action is how the pesticide works on its target pest. Families can be related by mode of action or a family may have a specific unique mode of action.
| Mode of Action | Family | Type of Pesticide |
| Acetylcholine esterase inhibitors | Carbamates | Insecticide |
| Sodium channel modulators | Pyrethroids | Insecticide |
| Sodium channel modulators | Organophosphate | Insecticide |
| Nucleic acid synthesis | Acylalanines | Fungicide |
| Classical Photosynthesis Inhibitor | Triazines | Herbicide |
| Growth Regulation | Penoxys | Herbicide |
| This is no where even near a complete list. Just a few examples to get the point across. Information extracted from: 1. "Insecticide Mode of Action Table", Oklahoma State University. 2."Herbicide Classification by Site of Action", Illinois State University. 3. "Families of Fungicides for Turfgrass", The Ohio State University. |
