Product Reviews :: Real US made basketball shoes? You've got to be kidding! My faithful set of basketball shoes was wearing somewhat thin so I reluctantly decided the time had come to replace them. Being concerned about what outsourcing did to the US economy I resolved that I would replace my old Reeboks (that had been made in Korea) with a pair of real and 100% genuine "Made in USA" basketball shoes. During the method I wanted to remain out in the clutches in the scammers and spammers have been selling fake replica shoes. First I went on the internet and looked at the dazzling variety of beautiful new court shoes available, but there was clearly no indication of where these could have been made so off I attended Google. There I soon learned that all of big brand shoes such as Big N? ( you realize who I mean the king of shoes which made over the billion dollars profit this past year) were made overseas, that this labor practices in their overseas plants was less than desirable, and that the foreign operations of your number of U.S. shoe companies made a lot being desired. From there I decided to try the Mall and decided to look at the labels of all the brand name basketball shoes - "Made in VietNam", "Made in Korea", Made in China", "Made in Thailand", "Made in "Indonesia" and "Made in Brazil". Not a single pair "Made in USA". This didn't manage to help much so I turned for the hovering clerk and asked if she had any Made in USA shoes. That question gave the impression to bewilder her, so I asked clerks in other stores and those have been not stunned with that question told me that there was no such thing as an American made basketball shoe, with all the possible exception of Chuck Taylors. I was soon to determine that even output of these stalwarts was moved overseas when Nike bought out Converse in 2003. I went back home perplexed as well as a bit disappointed but resolved to go straight on the horse?s mouth, so I started calling the organization headquarters of some from the major US shoe manufacturers to find the real story. Nike informed me that they were still manufacturing in Indonesia "and lots of other countries in that region", understanding that "it was not economically possible manufacture inside the United States". This is the same company that made a profit that could reach over $450 million in the third quarter of 2007 alone? The nice lady at L.A. Gear seemed a lttle bit surprised when I asked if their shoes were made in USA but said that their shoes were produced in Brazil and lots of countries in Asia. Being nothing or even stubborn, I kept the telephone warm and called Reebok but all I was told was that "All in our shoes are made somewhere outside in the United States". When I told this lady that I was interested in shoes being manufactured in deplorable conditions overseas she sent me a pleasant brochure which assured me that their shoes were manufactured under circumstances "appropriate in light of national practices and conditions". Several calls later I found that these countries were China, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, along with the Philippines. Sigh! K-Swiss shoes would only claim that they manufactured "offshore" however when I called New Balance I was told that 70% of their shoes are made in the United States, while using remaining 30% stated in Europe and Asia. Sadly none of the shoes gave the impression to fit me. Somewhat discouraged I sat down and thought about it for somewhat. How much does it matter I wondered? How easily do principles give way on the need for better ankle support, brand loyalty, fashion or for better pricing? What's this all flap about foreign made replica shoes? Are each of the shoes sold online fakes being that they are all made overseas? How can I tell if an online shoe site is selling fake replicas or the genuine genuine thing? Does it genuinely matter as long as the shoes are perfect? What exactly is often a fake and what is real or genuine? So I thought we would join everyone else and went back online and found a nice set of basketball shoes from your company called kicksbay.com. They probably were not stated in USA but the price was right, these shoes were delivered promptly, they can fit well and seem to get just as good as my old Reeboks in the game. Their customer satisfaction was helpful and I will probably buy from them the very next time, even though I wish I could find a pair of Made in USA basketball shoes. And now I am having a hard rethink about every one of the fuss the big manufactures are making over "fake or replica" shoes. Is a couple of shoes that came out of your same factory that produces Nikes or Addidas? shoes just as good as the "genuine the real guy" or are the high prices were paying just to support the high dollar profits some companies are making? It is food for thought as well as perhaps more articles.
