MESSAGE FROM
SHERIFF
PAT GARRETT
175 YEARS OF PIONEERS
2018 was a significant year for WCSO as we honored the strong history of
our agency spanning over the last 175 years. A milestone, as significant as
an anniversary nearly two centuries in the making, naturally allows time to
reflect on our history and the type of legacy we build for the future. While
much has changed since Joseph Meek became the first Oregon Sheriff in
1843, law enforcement in Washington County still serves to maintain safe
communities where people establish roots, build homes, run businesses, work
and raise families. We proudly continue on that tradition today, with modern
deputies - well-trained and equipped - to navigate complex demands. Our
commitment to continuously evolve our practices and leverage technology
while remaining connected with our community enhances our ability to serve.
In this report, I proudly share how we work each day to keep Washington
County the safest urban county in Oregon, maintain safety for some of our
most vulnerable community members, evolve community policing as well as
exciting advancements we are pioneering in forensic technology and crime
deterrents.
Our pioneering spirit is supported by a strong foundation, purposely simple
and clear: do your best, do the right thing, treat others the way you want to be
treated. These straight forward yet powerful guiding principles are designed
to remind us our top priority – serve with compassion and respect. No matter
how technology or our county landscape may evolve, if we always return
to our core values we know we will be successful for the next 175 years and
beyond.
