Jets fire OL coach DeGuglielmo: source

The Jets have fired Jets offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo, a source told The Post.

DeGuglielmo, who held the same position in Miami and came to New York with recently-fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, will be replaced by tight ends coach Mike Devlin.

Though the line performed well this season, ranking third best in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus, DeGuglielmo became better known for his outspoken remarks and disdain for the media.

During training camp, DeGuglielmo threatened to spit tobacco juice on the feet of reporters. Then during the season, DeGuglielmo only spoke to the press after the Jets' bye week when The Post complained to the league that the coach had not spoken to the press, as each position coach is required to speak at least once during the team's bye week.

DeGuglielmo said reporters never attempted to talk to him, but the Jets' facility was closed that week, the week of Hurricane Sandy.

After finally speaking, the coach made headlines by criticizing guard Vlad Ducasse, saying the decision to play the guard was not his.

“It’s a directive from high above me,” DeGuglielmo said. “You have to ask somebody higher than me.”
