Dr. Sovick acknowledged herself as an agent of change and not just a consumer of knowledge who is committed to contribute to the advancement and betterment of individuals, communities, organizations, and society. Her job as a scholar-practitioner is to bridge the gap between academia and the real world, combining scholarly research with practical application to solve complex problems in her field as an international business researcher.

  • COMING TO THE MAT is a production of Melanesian Women Today and directed by Dr. Mere Tari Sovick. This project is centered around Pacfic Island culture that is central to the development of children, communities, and traditional practices. Aimed at telling the stories of courageous, ordinary Pacific Island women from across the South Pacific (Melanesia, Polynesia, Micronesia, and around the globe) and to give them a space to share their stories with the hope to inspire others. Women play a central role in rearing children as well as keepers of traditional knowledge. Traditional knowledge is the cornerstone of indigenous identity, culture, languages, heritage and livelihoods, and its transmission from one generation to the next. Through storytelling women are able to pass on these traditional knowledge and in doing so, they are preserving as well as protecting.
