Each individual who enters the WCSO Jail proceeds through intake - a strictly organized sequence that includes inmate housing areas to administer
processes such as fingerprinting, booking photo, body scan and other assessments. During this time each inmate medication and monitor inmate
goes through an intake nursing assessment where medical staff assess inmate health, vitals and suicide risk. Medical health.
or mental health needs are noted and monitored as appropriate.
Once an inmate is lodged into the jail, medical and mental health staff continuously monitor and evaluate health
needs and issues. Within the jail, a staffed medical office provides a safe and secure location where inmates visit for a
variety of medical needs. An on-site mental health team results in more inmates receiving treatment services while in
custody and allows for partnership with other criminal justice system partners to develop discharge plans to support
inmates as they eventually transition back into the community.
Medical and mental health staff also visit housing areas during the day - conducting ongoing mental health assessments,
monitoring detox status and administering prescribed medications.
