7. Activity #1 worksheet (pp. 18 – 19): Students are posed with the problem of
imagining how a bicycle ended up in a chimney. They are asked to be innovative and
imaginative in drawing the conclusions.

8. Activity #2: Part A 10 minutes
• Distribute a plain piece of paper to each student.
• Instruct students to use the oil pastels provided to create an abstract artwork
that can consist of lines, squiggles, patterns and patches of colour etc.
• It must be colourful
• Students are not to draw anything recognisable, eg, stick figures, trees etc.

Activity #2: Part B 5 minutes
• Students are now to create one large artwork by bringing together their
individual pieces.
• The unified artwork should be a large square/rectangle.
• Students are to consider how the coloured pieces match against each other
and attempt to create some kind of flow through the unified artwork. For
example certain colours or patterns used in some student artworks may
benefit from being put next to each other.
• Overall the students need to ensure, to the best of their ability, that the
unified artwork is not a ‘mishmash’ of individual pieces.
